Beginners Guide to Digital Marketing

Beginners Guide to Digital Marketing

You have an awesome idea for an online business. You get the website up and the app ready. All is set to rock and roll in the online world. So far so good. But, the main challenge comes when you think how to get people to check your website and try your app.

For some, it can be an area where they have no or negligible knowledge. They do not know where and how to get started with Online Marketing and build the brand value. So to walk you through the right path, I am writing this blog post.

Setting yourself up in the online or offline world as a recognizable brand is not really that tough. In the beginning, you must not be anxious about brand colors and all of those things. What is really needed is “being you”. Your persona, your genuineness should reflect in your business and in your communication with your customers.

I am sure the business idea you came up with is very dear to you and you know things about your business. Now, all you have to do is talk about it with the world.

As suggested above, the first thing is “being you” – get this ingrained in yourself. And then follow the rest of the points I have discussed below.

Content

Everything about marketing is content, right? The communication with your customers. The better you are at it, the better you attract people towards your business. To have a stronger online presence for your business, the first thing you will have to think about is “Content”.

Think about what you want to share with your customers about your industry. For example, I am in a Virtual Assistance business and the mission of our business is to help businesses by providing them with various skills, one of them being Digital Marketing, so I am writing a blog post today on Digital Marketing. The mission of our business is also work-life balance and well being for our customers, so we develop content in these areas as well. After you know the kind of information you want to share with your customers, next comes the voice. It is very easy to get the right voice for your brand. Let me crack the code for you. We all have our own way of talking, right? And when we are excited, very energetic or enjoy talking about the things we Love, we have that voice, right? That intonation, that pause, etc. Do you get it? So you gotta keep that tone for your business. You are the brand of your business, so your business needs your voice. Bring that voice in the content you develop for your business through the art of writing, making videos, and by developing Graphics. You have to put that energy of yours in the content.

The first thing you should be doing is developing content. Develop plenty of content in the form of audio, video, text, graphics, etc. When you get a content idea, just make a note right then. We have platforms and channels on the internet for all sorts of media.

Do not worry about ANYTHING else till you have a handful of content, because after you have this, you feel confident, you will see hope and light, yes, I have something. Do not be frustrated thinking that I am not making anything. Good things take time, so you have to keep that patience.

After you are set with the content, you will have to think how you can utilize the internet to market your business digitally.

#1 – Set-up a Blog

This is a common thing, right? We see almost all business websites have a blog section where they put articles. It is obviously important to have a blog, but what is more important is to utilize the opportunity of having a blog.

You see why people start a blog, to start a discussion about something, right? To share their views with the world. Similarly, you should make the blog of your website a personal space to connect with your customers. Say you have an eCommerce website on clothing. You can discuss various things about fashion, history, and so many things. Instead of solely focusing on your blog to drive direct sales, make it a place to talk with the world about what you know, what you believe in, and what you feel. Blogging must be fun.

If you do the blogging in a proper way, and if people are really enjoying your blog posts, then your website will be benefited highly in terms of SEO. Your website will also generate a lot of traffic from Search Engines.

#2 – Take part in the content platforms

Next, when you get time from doing the blogging, take part in the various content platforms on the internet like Medium.com, LinkedIn Pulse, Quora, Reddit, etc. These are platforms where people talk about various things and these platforms have many users. If you are putting some good stuff in there, then for sure, your business or brand will get that exposure and as well you will be able to drive some good traffic. But, you will have to be consistent with your efforts in the beginning for some time to see results.

The main objective is to share knowledge and educate your customers. While blogging, give the thought of ‘driving sales’ a backseat and instead focus on great content. All the big-time bloggers and YouTubers, when they started, were writing or making videos out of fun, so please put the genuineness in the forefront.

If you are doing only these handfuls of things properly, then these things can consume a lot of your time, so do not be worried about thinking I have to cover everything in a day. Whatever may be the amount you are covering in a day, you must feel satisfied.

#3 – Utilizing the Social Media channels

Social Media sites are of great benefit to a business, so you will have to leverage the benefits of having social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

Your business profiles must have a good look. Optimize them properly. However, the primary thing is to make good posts. When you will be working on the above 2 areas we discussed, you will have a lot of content to be used in these social media sites. You can shorten the content to keep it simple and to the point.

When I make posts for Social Media, I take it like cooking. If I am able to make good food, then the aroma will spread and sooner or later it will attract people and bring them to my social media handles and if they enjoy consuming it, then they will come for more. This will give me genuine followers.

I think above is enough to get you started for a longer run, and I hope that you really enjoyed it. Doing these you will not need a huge marketing budget, but the long term return is high, trust me on this. Good things in life cost less.
